Welcome!
What is all of this?
What is all of this?
The inspiration for this space came from reading the personal websites and blogs of highly skilled programmers and other professionals in the technology space. I wanted to take that inspiration and build a "one-stop shop" for everything I am about — things I'm interested in or actively working on — not exclusive to making music, programming, or tinkering with AI, but a smorgasbord of all things. Also, the idea of keeping this split between multiple social media platforms seemed like a pain so having everything in one place and using those other platforms to link here made more sense. Ultimately, it's a dedicated canvas to ramble and rant about a variety of topics, as well as showcase projects and other areas of expertise.
Reading more and more of these sites, the thought of starting my own kept growing in the back of my head until I decided to act on it and build one — about a month ago. I thought about building it entirely from scratch under a new name, but ultimately decided to go back to MACKY for everything.
What did MACKY used to be or mean?
MACKY used to be the name of a bass music project with that singular purpose. When I initially chose it for my EDM endeavors, it stuck really well, and I had a moderate amount of regional success as a DJ in Texas. However, earning my Bachelor's and Master's degrees was my ultimate focus during that time — as was being a rock for my wife during a rather difficult personal situation — and that dream ultimately fell by the wayside (I'll talk about it one day).
I originally thought about branching into a separate name for technology-related things, but as I became more heavily “tuned” into the technology, Software Engineering, and AI spaces on X, more people came to know MACKY, and it stuck. "Macky" is actually a family name — not only my first name, but that of my father and grandfather as well, making me "Macky the Third" technically. I plan to keep the family tradition going.
What do I plan to “blog” or write about?
Anything and everything under the sun. Right now, there are only 5 “topic” tags but that will easily expand. I’ll be doing more work on this site as the ideas develop and more articles mature. I haven’t written anything major of substance since my English 1302 course (2015/2016?) and wanted to get into a good cadence of laying my thoughts in an open record somewhere. Why not here?
What projects am I working on?
This is mainly relegated to software and AI projects but will also include any past or future music/art I decide to work on as well. Again, it’s an open canvas for me so if I create it or program it outside of work, it’ll end up here. The website itself also has the same philosophy behind it and may change or evolve as it goes forward. I’ll be sure to document any major changes like that for ease of use. I already have a couple of things I am looking into (an email list or newsletter format for example).
Speaking of “work”
I should probably also mention that any thoughts or anything logged here are NOT the opinions of my employer — they are mine and mine alone. Hopefully this won't be something I have to repeat, but it bears mentioning up front. If I ever get permission to expand on some of the things I do for my day job, there might be some leeway there. I ultimately wouldn’t count on it though.
All of that being said
I hope you enjoy my open canvas. There’s a Contact button at the bottom of the About page if you’d ever like to get in touch with me and add some perspective or any thoughts of your own. I may respond back or you might go to a “spam” or “junk” folder haha. I figured that’d be a lot easier than having to maintain a “comments” section. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to what’s ahead for this space!
